First there was the fact that I have a birthday coming up on Oct. 17th. Not only is this a big one (one with a '0' at the end of the number) but my girlfriend, Loryn, and I actually share the same birthday. To celebrate, I booked a show at the Rendezvous and we are to play a set together as Monstroclaw. While we have played a show once already, my mistake was attaching the word 'dub' to our musical description in certain press releases. Loryn is really into reggae and dub and now it has us working pretty hard to integrate our free form electronic noise into a style of music worthy of being called 'dub'.
And then there is Tempered Steel, the thumb piano ensemble. This was a project that has always been really fun but I have been neglecting it over the past couple of years. Lately, however, we've been getting together on a regular basis to practice. We've also been making high quality multitrack recordings of our sessions and they have been turning out awesome! Dennis went ahead and got us a gig at Floating Leaves on Fri. the 19th.
On Sunday the 14th, I'll be participating in an ambient electronic music night at Mr. Spot's. When I was asked to play it, I almost turned it down because of the other shows going on but the guy running really wanted me to be involved and I guess I am a sucker for flattery. This will be a good opportunity for me to play out using just my desktop evolver, which I tend to refer to as "God in a box".
